9 Best GeoDirectory Alternatives in 2026
Compared on build work, yearly cost, extra cities, upkeep, how each one earns, and what you keep if you stop paying.

GeoDirectory's reviews mostly praise its support: 4.8 out of 5 from 716 on WordPress.org when we checked on 25 October 2026. Reviewers who left, mostly in older reviews, cite add-on cost and documentation, and newer owners describe a long build. One owner who bought the all-add-ons plan wrote in March 2024: "I am NOT technical, so I am trying to do everything off of YouTube videos, but it has been a little confusing for me so far" (r/BloggingBusiness).
Our pick: LocusPilot Directory Builder is the best GeoDirectory alternative for a local-business directory you want built and written for you, with hosting included. Directorist, HivePress and Business Directory Plugin have free cores you can test first, and Brilliant Directories or eDirectory suit hosted directories where members pay you online. Skip LocusPilot if you need payments on the site, more than 1,000 listings, languages other than English, or the code on your own server.
What matters when you leave GeoDirectory?
Compare build work, yearly cost, city coverage, upkeep, how each tool earns, and what you keep if you leave. GeoDirectory's free core stops at one city, and the same Reddit thread has another owner saying: "I've got four months into my site so far and I'm still learning."
- How much of the build and the writing is still yours?
- What does a year cost with add-ons, renewals and hosting?
- Does a second or third city cost extra?
- Who keeps the server, plugins and security patches current?
- Does the site earn from payments on the site, or from leads and featured slots you sell?
- What do you keep if you stop paying?

1. LocusPilot Directory Builder
LocusPilot Directory Builder builds and hosts English-language local-business directories from a Google Business category and a city, with review analysis and lead capture. You fill in a short form (one of 4,274 categories, a city, your brand and a design) and the engine pulls the businesses itself. You can use your own domain, edit page content and SEO fields, and hide listings; edits survive each refresh.
Each listing gets an AI-written analysis of its recent reviews, which you can edit: what customers praise, what they warn about, and who the business suits. Larger directories also get AI-written best-of pages, a glossary and guides under an author persona, a byline you create rather than a real person. Thin pages are never built, and one directory can cover up to 15 cities in one state.
- Ranked on a published methodology (live example), with review sentiment weighted 28% by default
- Quote form on every listing, with calls, WhatsApp taps and website clicks tracked
- Closed businesses and dead websites removed each refresh, with a "last verified" date on every listing

Not for: payments or member dues on the site, more than 1,000 listings, languages other than English, or the code on your own server. There are no refunds and cancellation terms are not published, so ask before you pay; the first build costs no credits, once per account. To see the output first, browse the demos on the Directory Builder page.
What LocusPilot directories look like in use
Just built my first directory. Looks great and was easy to get going.
AAustin D., LocusPilot customer
- A LocusPilot directory is a hosted site of ranked local businesses with review analysis, guides and a quote form on every listing.
- A cafe directory we built and run on LocusPilot got 5,230 clicks and 801,035 impressions in Google Search Console from 5 July to 24 October 2026, average position 7.4. One site's result, not a forecast.
- Puchong Cafe, a live demo with 200 listings, cost about 25 credits to build.
LocusPilot vs GeoDirectory
| Feature | LocusPilot | GeoDirectory |
|---|---|---|
| Starting cost | $29/mo Operator with hosting; first build costs no credits | Free core; all add-ons $139/yr for one site, plus your hosting |
| Hosting, updates, security | Includedwins | Yours: WordPress host, theme and plugin updates |
| Getting listings in | Pulled for you from a Google Business category and citywins | Owner submissions, CSV, or Social Importer one listing at a time |
| Content on top of listings | AI-written review analysis, guides, best-of pages and comparisons, all editablewins | No AI content features named on the vendor pages checked on 25 October 2026; you write it |
| More cities | Up to 15 cities in one state per directory (another state means a second directory); each added city costs 2 credits plus 0.1 per estimated listing, and the 1,000-listing cap covers all cities | Location Manager add-on, from $49/yr |
| Payments on the site | None; featured slots are invoiced by you | Pricing Manager: recurring payments, featured listings; pay to claim also needs Claim Listingswins |
| Scale and languages | Up to 1,000 listings; English only | No listing cap stated; WPML compatiblewins |
| Export and ownership | Directories cannot be exported or self-hosted | Plugins keep working without updates if you stop paying; CSV exportwins |
GeoDirectory wins on payments, scale and ownership, and its listed license prices are lower. LocusPilot includes hosting and writes the analysis and guides; weigh your own upkeep and writing time against that. If listing owners pay you through the site today, that row may decide it.
2. Brilliant Directories
Brilliant Directories is the hosted platform the AI engines named most often for this switch, in 8 of our 9 answers. Hosting, updates and white-label branding come with the plan, and members can sign up, pay and renew through Stripe, PayPal or Authorize.net; BD advertises $0 platform fees.
That removes GeoDirectory's Pricing Manager and payment-plugin layer. The Monthly Plan is $97, and the $997 lifetime plan carried a "Lifetime Plans Are Going Away THIS WEEK" banner on 25 October 2026. Claimable and multi-location listings sit among 70 premium add-ons, $95 a month as a bundle. Our Brilliant Directories alternatives page goes deeper.
Strengths
- Recurring payments through Stripe, PayPal or Authorize.net
- Up to 100,000 members on either plan
- Instant Business Data fills listings from 3,500+ categories with AI-written descriptions; 100 records on the Monthly Plan, more sold per record
- 7-day free trial with no card
Watch out for
- AI bots are blocked on the hosting included with both plans; the Enhanced Hosting Bundle allows them (advertised at $15 a month, struck from $30)
- Claimable and multi-location listings are premium add-ons
- One site per plan, and refunds only within 7 days on full-price subscriptions
Pick Brilliant Directories if you want WordPress gone but still need members to pay and renew on the site.
3. Directorist
Directorist is a WordPress directory plugin from wpWax. Its free version includes something GeoDirectory charges for: maps, locations and radius search sit in the Free column of its comparison table, with unlimited listings, custom fields and several directory types.
Pricing plans, featured visibility, recurring subscriptions and payments need a paid plan: $129 a year list for one site ($116 on sale, 25 October 2026), $219 for unlimited sites, or a lifetime license from $379. The Directorist AI pages we reviewed describe structure and field setup, not adding businesses. A separate AI Search extension arrived on 21 May 2026.
Strengths
- Maps, locations and radius search in the free version
- Unlimited listings and several directory types, free
- Lifetime licenses from $379 instead of yearly renewals
- WordPress.org rating of 4.6 from 698 reviews, checked 25 October 2026
Watch out for
- Payments, paid listings and featured spots need a paid plan
- Google Maps import needs your own Google Cloud billing and brings in 60 listings per run
- A May 2026 one-star review says a major update would "flatten everything I had built" (WordPress.org)
Pick Directorist if WordPress itself is fine and you want locations before paying for a plan; our Directorist alternatives guide covers where it falls short.
4. HivePress
HivePress is a free WordPress plugin from HiveApps for directory and listing sites. GeoDirectory needs Pricing Manager for paid listings, and Claim Listings as well for paid claims; the free HivePress can already charge for new listings, featured spots and claims through WooCommerce. Reviews, messages, favorites and geolocation come as free add-ons.
The paid side is one bundle: every extension and theme for $99 a year (the vendor does not state a site count) or $199 for unlimited sites, against GeoDirectory's $139 for one site and $229 for unlimited. Single extensions cost $29 to $39 as lifetime one-site licenses.
Strengths
- Charges for listings, featured spots and claims in the free version
- Every extension and theme for $99 a year
- WordPress.org rating of 4.9 from 221 reviews, checked 25 October 2026
- 30-day money-back guarantee
Watch out for
- CSV import and SEO controls are $29 add-ons
- No Google Maps import named on the vendor pages checked on 25 October 2026; its AI is a support assistant
- Recurring memberships need WooCommerce Subscriptions
Pick HivePress if you want to stay on WordPress and pay $99 a year for all its extensions and themes, plus hosting and any WooCommerce Subscriptions you need.
5. Business Directory Plugin
Business Directory Plugin is a WordPress plugin from Strategy11, the company behind Formidable Forms. Its free version has no listing limit and already takes money: paid or free listing plans by category, recurring payments, and featured upgrades, through Stripe or Authorize.net. Stripe carries a 3% vendor fee on the free plugin, Basic or an expired license; only an active Pro or Elite license removes it.
Location features are where the plans split. Google Maps and city or ZIP search start on Pro at $149 for the first year, and claim listings need Elite at $249; renewals return to $249 and $349. No native AI or Google Maps import was named on the vendor pages checked on 25 October 2026, so listings arrive by CSV or by hand. Owners weighing it on its own can read our Business Directory Plugin alternatives breakdown.
Strengths
- No listing limit in the free plugin
- Recurring paid listings with Stripe or Authorize.net, free
- Listings stay as WordPress posts if you delete the plugin
- 14-day money-back guarantee
Watch out for
- First-year prices renew at full price: $149, $249 or $349
- Maps and city search start on Pro; claim listings are Elite only
- v6.4.21 (3 February 2026) fixed security vulnerabilities, and v6.4.19 and v6.4.20 list security items too (dates not captured; changelog); patching is yours
Pick Business Directory Plugin if you want recurring listing fees on WordPress before paying for a license.
6. eDirectory
eDirectory is directory software from Arca Solutions, sold as a hosted cloud plan or as a PHP source license. Its FAQ says you can start on the cloud and move to self-hosted later; that move means buying the $1,499 Enterprise Source license, which includes 30 days of support. Every plan includes payment processing and unlimited listings and members.
Professional Cloud is $99 a month billed monthly, or $74.25 a month billed yearly, and shows "Powered by eDirectory"; Enterprise Cloud is $199 a month. AI content suggestions, review summaries and AI search run on your own OpenAI key. There is no self-serve trial; you request a demo.
Strengths
- Self-host later with the $1,499 Enterprise Source license
- Payment processing on every plan
- Unlimited listings and members
- Listings and other data can be exported
Watch out for
- No self-serve trial, and refunds only within 48 hours
- Terms renew unless you give 30 days' notice, and leaving early makes the rest of the term's fees due
- AI features need your own OpenAI API key
Pick eDirectory if you want hosting handled now and the option to run the code yourself later.
7. MyListing
MyListing is a WordPress directory theme from 27collective, sold on ThemeForest. The theme is the directory: unlimited listing types such as places, events, cars or property, each with its own fields, search form and page layout. Paid listings, promotions and claims run through WooCommerce, and Elementor is required.
The Regular license is $119 for a site whose users are not charged; the Extended license is $1,199. Envato's FAQ says a site that charges users to use the item's features needs the Extended one, while payment for a separate product or service does not. The pages we reviewed do not say where paid listings fall, so get it in writing; our MyListing alternatives write-up goes through that license choice.
Strengths
- Unlimited listing types on one site
- Promotion packages that push listings up the search results
- Six releases in 2026, including v3.0 in September
- One-off price with future updates included
Watch out for
- Charging users may need the $1,199 Extended license; check Envato's terms first
- WooCommerce and Elementor are required; recurring plans need WooCommerce Subscriptions
- No free version or trial; support lasts 6 months (12 with a $40.13 extension)
Pick MyListing if one site has to list several kinds of thing and you are happy to stay on WordPress.
8. Softr
Softr is a hosted no-code app builder rather than directory software. You keep listings in Softr Databases, Airtable or Google Sheets, and Softr puts pages on top with logins and permissions built in. There is nothing to install or update, which answers the hosting complaint, but you build the directory yourself from a template, with an AI Co-Builder to help.
The free plan holds up to 5,000 records across your databases. Your own domain means Basic ($25 monthly, $228 a year), and dropping the Softr badge means Pro ($119 monthly, $1,188 a year). We did not check Softr's payment or review features; its directory templates target internal or partner directories.
Strengths
- Hosted, with logins and permissions built in
- Works on Airtable, Google Sheets or Softr Databases
- Free plan with 1,000 records per database
- 50% off for nonprofits and education
Watch out for
- Payment and review features not checked; its directory templates target internal or partner directories
- Custom domain from $25 a month; branding removal from $119
- No Google Maps import named on the vendor pages checked on 25 October 2026
Pick Softr if your listings already live in a spreadsheet and you want logins and permissions on top.
9. ListingPro
ListingPro is a WordPress directory theme from Cridio Studio, sold on ThemeForest for a one-off $69 under the Regular License, the only license offered for it. It packs in much of what GeoDirectory sells as add-ons. Paid plans (one-time or recurring, on its own Stripe and PayPal checkout), paid claims, ad campaigns, per-listing lead forms and appointment booking are built in.
Read the release history before you build on it. The latest release, 2.9.12 on 19 August 2026, fixed security vulnerabilities, as did 2.9.11 and 2.9.10 before it. The last release listing new features was 2.9.7 in April 2025. No native AI was named on the vendor pages checked on 25 October 2026; it has no separate listing types, and each license covers one finished site.
Strengths
- Paid plans, paid claims and ad campaigns built in
- Lead form on every listing, with replies in a dashboard inbox
- Appointment booking, events and deals included
- $69 one-off price, updates included
Watch out for
- Last release listing new features: 2.9.7, April 2025
- Only 6 months of support come with the license
- Sold only under the $69 Regular License; confirm with the vendor before charging listing owners
Pick ListingPro if you want paid plans, claims and lead forms in a one-off theme and you have read its release history, which our ListingPro alternatives comparison covers in more detail.
What does a year on each tool cost?
The cheapest paid first year is ListingPro at $69 one-off, then HivePress at $99; among hosted tools, Softr Basic is $228 a year and LocusPilot $348. These are license and subscription list prices from vendor pages on 25 October 2026, not matched feature sets, and hosting is excluded.
| Tool | First year, one directory | Hosting and updates | Who writes the content |
|---|---|---|---|
| LocusPilot | $348 base subscription (Operator, $29 billed monthly, 30 credits a month); first build costs no credits, once per account. Refresh is 0.05 credits per listing per cycle, so 1,000 listings refreshed monthly use 50 credits; extra credits start at $0.85 each, so the extra 20 are about $17 a month | Included | The engine: AI-written review analysis, guides, best-of pages, all editable |
| GeoDirectory (today) | $139 for all add-ons on one site, or $147 for Location Manager, Pricing Manager and Claim Listings bought singly | Your WordPress host and updates | You |
| Brilliant Directories | $1,164 billed monthly, $1,344 with the AI-crawler bundle at its advertised $15 a month, or $997 lifetime | Included | AI tools for pages, emails and SEO content; you edit |
| Directorist | $0 free core; $129 list ($116 on sale, 25 October 2026) for paid features | Your WordPress host and updates | You; its AI sets up fields |
| HivePress | $0 free core; $99 for all extensions and themes | Your WordPress host and updates | You |
| Business Directory Plugin | $0 free core; $99 Basic, $149 Pro or $249 Elite, renewing at $149, $249 or $349 | Your WordPress host and updates | You |
| eDirectory | $891 billed yearly, or $1,188 billed monthly | Included on cloud plans | AI content suggestions and review summaries on your own OpenAI key |
| MyListing | $119 Regular or $1,199 Extended license, one-off | Your WordPress host and updates | You |
| Softr | $228 Basic or $1,188 Pro, billed yearly | Included | You; its AI builds the app, not the listings |
| ListingPro | $69 Regular License, one-off (check it covers charging listing owners) | Your WordPress host and updates | You |
On the self-hosted rows, the low prices leave out a host to run and updates to apply. On most rows the descriptions and guides are yours to write; Brilliant Directories, eDirectory and Softr add AI help of different kinds.
How do you move off GeoDirectory?
GeoDirectory exports categories, listings and reviews to CSV, so a move starts with a file you control.
- Export listings, categories and reviews as CSV, and back up the whole WordPress site.
- Note the pages that earn traffic and money today: city pages, top listings, paid plans.
- Build the new directory while the old one stays live. Directorist, Business Directory Plugin, eDirectory and HivePress (with its $29 Import add-on) take CSV; LocusPilot is a fresh build from public data, not a migration.
- LocusPilot has not published redirect controls for old URLs. If they carry traffic, keep the old site live on its own address or ask before you move the domain; with other tools, check redirect support and test it first.
- Warn listing owners who pay you; their plans and payments do not travel with a CSV file.
- Point the domain at the new site, then cancel the renewal. The plugins keep running, without security updates.
When should you stay with GeoDirectory?
GeoDirectory is the better tool to keep if listing owners pay you on the site through its Pricing Manager, if you need far more than 1,000 listings (AyeCode pitches it "for millions of listings"), or if you run other languages through WPML. It also wins on ownership: if your membership lapses, the plugins keep working without updates.
Its recent WordPress.org reviews are mostly praise for fast help. One owner wrote in January 2026: "We have tried 4-5 other directory plugins over the years and none ever seemed to be able to do all that we needed" (WordPress.org).
