4 Best Business Directory Plugin Alternatives in 2026
For WordPress owners on the Strategy11 plugin, compared on payment fees, claim listings, Google import and upkeep.

Business Directory Plugin by Strategy11 is free, and its free plugin takes paid listings through Authorize.net with no Strategy11 fee (Authorize.net's own gateway charges apply). Stripe is different: free, Basic and expired licenses pay 3% on top of Stripe's fees until you hold an active Pro or Elite license. Claims need Elite ($249 first year), and its Google Maps module displays listings; no Google import is named on its pages checked on 25 October 2026. One April 2026 review: "While the information for listings is easy to manage, the payment system for those listings is not." (WordPress.org)
Our pick: LocusPilot Directory Builder is the best Business Directory Plugin alternative for a local-business directory that finds its own businesses and writes the review analysis. It suits owners who sell featured slots off the site. On WordPress, GeoDirectory is the best fit for bringing your listings along, Directorist for importing businesses from Google, and HivePress for claims without the Elite plan. If businesses must pay at a checkout on your site, LocusPilot is the wrong tool.
What matters when you leave Business Directory Plugin?
Leaving Business Directory Plugin comes down to six questions about money, setup and what happens when you go. Decide what the directory needs before you compare:
- What does it cost to take money from listings: a fee on each payment, a license, or neither?
- Which plan unlocks claim listings, maps and featured placement?
- Where do the businesses come from: a CSV, one-at-a-time imports, Google Places on your own API key, or the tool itself?
- How much can you test before paying, and how long is the refund window? "How can you properly test before you buy" asked one March 2025 reviewer, who later said they would try again.
- Who does the design work and keeps the site patched?
- What do you keep if you leave?

Three WordPress plugins chosen from AI answers (see How we checked), plus our own product. USD, from each vendor's pricing page on 25 October 2026; WordPress plugin prices exclude hosting.
1. LocusPilot Directory Builder
LocusPilot Directory Builder is a hosted, English-only service from $29 a month (25 October 2026). It finds local businesses by niche and city and writes review summaries; it takes no payments, and directories cannot be exported. A directory covers up to 15 cities in one state (another state means a second directory). Each added city costs 2 credits plus 0.1 per estimated listing, and the 1,000-listing cap covers all cities.
LocusPilot then adds AI-written summaries of each business's recent public reviews, rankings on a published method, best-of pages and a guide library. All of it is editable, and the guides carry an author byline you create, not a real person. Each directory publishes a corrections policy: requests acknowledged within 5 business days, confirmed removals within 7. You sell featured slots and banners and invoice the businesses yourself.
- Businesses found for you from 4,274 Google Business categories, in up to 15 cities in one state per directory
- AI-written review summaries on every listing: what customers praise, what they warn about, who the business suits
- Paid placement you sell and invoice yourself, with no fee taken
- Quote form on every listing, with calls, WhatsApp taps and website clicks tracked

Not for: directories where businesses pay or sign up at a checkout on the site, since LocusPilot handles no payments. Our Brilliant Directories alternatives and Directify alternatives pages compare hosted options with member billing. LocusPilot is also not for directories over 1,000 listings, non-English directories, or owners who need to export the site. With no refunds, an evaluation costs at least one month; see the Puchong Cafe demo before you pay.
What we can show so far
So far it looks really good and has a lot of potential
SSean T., LocusPilot customer, early feedback
- From our own portfolio: a cafe directory LocusPilot built and runs logged 5,230 clicks from 801,035 Google impressions between 5 July and 24 October 2026, average position 7.4, in Search Console. One site is evidence the format can work, not a forecast for yours.
- The wizard prices a build before you start: 5 credits plus 0.10 per listing. Monthly refresh uses 0.05 credits per listing, so Operator's 30 credits cover about 600 listings; larger directories need Growth ($97 a month) or top-ups from $0.85 a credit.
- You can judge the output before paying: Puchong Cafe lists 200 cafes and took about 25 credits to build. We have no featured-slot revenue figure to show yet.
LocusPilot vs Business Directory Plugin
| Feature | LocusPilot | Business Directory Plugin |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly price | $29/mo Operator ($348 a year): 30 credits a month, hosting included | Free plugin; Pro $149 first year, renewals at full price, listed as $249; hosting is yourswins |
| Taking money from listings | No on-site payments; you invoice featured slots and keep the full amount | Stripe and Authorize.net in the free plugin; 3% fee on Stripe until an active Pro or Elite licensewins |
| Claims and paid placement | No claim-listing feature on its public pages as of 25 October 2026; featured slots, category exclusivity, banners and sponsored guides, kept out of the ranking | Featured and sticky listings; claim listings on Elite only ($249 first year) |
| Where listings come from | Found for you by niche and city, up to 15 cities in one state per directorywins | CSV import or typed in; Google Maps (Pro) shows them on a map |
| Listing content | Review analysis, best-of pages and guides written for youwins | Fields you or the owners fill in; ratings module from Basic |
| Upkeep | Hosting, updates and freshness checks run for youwins | WordPress hosting, plugin updates and security patches are yours |
| If you leave | The directory cannot be exported | Listings stay as WordPress posts, even if you delete the pluginwins |
| Languages | English only | WPML support and nine bundled translationswins |
Business Directory Plugin wins on price, on payments at a checkout, on languages, and on keeping your data when you go. LocusPilot wins on the work it takes off you: finding the businesses, writing the pages and running the site. If a checkout is the reason the directory exists, the second row decides it.
2. GeoDirectory
GeoDirectory is AyeCode's WordPress directory plugin, designed around places and maps. Google Maps, ratings and reviews, front-end submission and CSV import are all in the free core. For a Business Directory Plugin owner, the useful extra is Directory Converter: a free beta add-on that lists Business Directory Plugin among the directories it converts. AyeCode says not to use it on a live site, so run it on a staging copy.
GeoDirectory's free core handles a single city. More cities need Location Manager, paid listings need Pricing Manager, and claims need Claim Listings, each from $49 a year. Every add-on together is $139 a year for one site or $229 for unlimited sites (25 October 2026). Payments go through AyeCode's GetPaid plugin or WooCommerce, and the plugins keep running without support or updates if you stop renewing.
Strengths
- Free converter for Business Directory Plugin data (beta, staging only)
- Google Maps and reviews in the free core
- Every add-on for $139 a year on one site
- Plugins keep working, without support or updates, if you stop renewing
Watch out for
- One city in the free core; more need the Location Manager add-on
- Google My Business imports come in one listing at a time
- No AI content or listing generation named on the vendor pages checked on 25 October 2026
Pick GeoDirectory if you want to stay on WordPress and test moving your current listings into a map-first directory; our comparison of GeoDirectory alternatives covers where it falls short.
3. Directorist
Directorist is the only one of the three with a Google Places importer named on its vendor pages (checked on 25 October 2026). Its Listing Importer pulls businesses and their Google reviews by keyword and radius, up to 60 per run, on your own Google Cloud billing. Its setup wizard has an AI directory builder, improved in version 8.10 (1 October 2026), that sets up structure and fields. Its pages do not say it adds businesses or writes review analysis.
Directorist's free core includes unlimited listings, maps with radius search and CSV import. Paid listings, claims and featured spots are paid extensions. They come bundled in plans from $129 a year list ($116 on sale, 25 October 2026), or sold singly: the Listing Importer is $29 a year, and other single prices were not captured. Extensions keep working without support or updates if you don't renew.
Strengths
- Google Places import with reviews, up to 60 listings per run
- Every payment gateway extension included in paid plans
- AI setup wizard for directory structure and fields
- Maps, radius search and lifetime licenses from $379
Watch out for
- Import runs on your own Google Cloud billing and API key
- Paid listings, claims and featured spots are paid extensions
- WordPress.org reviews from 2024 to 2026 report bugs after major updates and slow or conditional support; one in May 2026 said an update would "flatten everything I had built"
Pick Directorist if you want Google businesses imported into a WordPress directory and can run your own Google API key; read the Directorist alternatives page before you buy.
4. HivePress
HivePress offers claims as a free add-on, which is the cheapest route to paid claims if one-off WooCommerce payments are enough. Claim Listings sits next to free Reviews and Geolocation add-ons, and the free plugin can take money for claims, new listings and featured placement through a WooCommerce checkout. HiveApps makes it and pairs it with ListingHive, a free directory theme.
The trade is setup work. Checkout runs through WooCommerce, and recurring plans also need WooCommerce Subscriptions, whose price we did not capture. A May 2026 reviewer building a tourism directory found that customizing past the default templates took CSS and often PHP. All paid extensions and themes cost $99 a year ($199 for unlimited sites), or $29 to $39 each as one-time single-site licenses (25 October 2026); CSV import is $29.
Strengths
- Claim Listings, Reviews and Geolocation as free add-ons
- Takes money for listings, featured spots and claims in the free version
- All extensions and themes for $99 a year
- 30-day money-back guarantee on paid licenses
Watch out for
- Recurring plans need WooCommerce Subscriptions (Business Directory Plugin's free plugin handles recurring payments itself)
- CSV import is a $29 extension; no Google import named on the vendor pages checked on 25 October 2026
- A May 2026 reviewer needed CSS, and often PHP, to customize past the templates
Pick HivePress if paid claims are what you wanted Elite for and you are happy to run WooCommerce for the checkout.
What do payments, claims and Google import cost on each tool?
Staying on Business Directory Plugin costs $0 to $249 for the first year (USD, 25 October 2026). Directorist lists from $129 a year, GeoDirectory from $139, HivePress $0 to $99, and LocusPilot $29 a month. The table splits that by payments, claims, getting businesses in and refunds; the WordPress plugins also need hosting, which varies by host and is left out.
| Tool | Taking money from listings | Claim listings | Getting businesses in | Refund window |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Directory Plugin | Stripe and Authorize.net in the free plugin; 3% Strategy11 fee on Stripe for free, Basic and expired licenses, removed by an active Pro ($149 first year) or Elite license | Elite only: $249 first year; renewals at full price, listed as $349 | CSV or by hand; the Google Maps module (Pro) displays them, and no Google import is named on its pages | 14 days; no free trial of paid plans |
| LocusPilot | No on-site payments; you invoice featured slots and banners, and LocusPilot takes no share | No claim-listing feature on its public pages as of 25 October 2026 | Found for you from 4,274 Google Business categories, up to 15 cities in one state | No refunds; first build uses no credits (once per account) |
| GeoDirectory | GetPaid (PayPal, Authorize.Net, Worldpay, bank transfer) or WooCommerce; paid listings need Pricing Manager, from $49/yr | Claim Listings add-on from $49/yr; pay-to-claim with Pricing Manager | CSV; Google My Business, Facebook or Yelp one listing at a time (from $29/yr) | 30 days; no free trial |
| Directorist | Stripe, PayPal and Authorize.net in paid plans from $129/yr list ($116 on sale, 25 October 2026) | In paid plans: owners claim and pay | CSV free; Google Places importer, 60 per run on your API key ($29/yr alone, or in paid plans) | 14 days; no free trial |
| HivePress | In the free version, through WooCommerce | Free add-on | CSV import extension $29; no Google import named on its pages | 30 days |
The fee maths for staying put: an active Pro license removes the 3% fee, so it pays for itself once Stripe carries $4,967 a year ($149 divided by 3%). At Pro's full price, listed as $249 and charged at renewal, the break-even is $8,300 a year. If 20 businesses pay $25 a month for a featured spot, that is $6,000 a year and a $180 fee. Directorist's and GeoDirectory's renewal prices were not published on the pages we checked.
How do you move a directory off Business Directory Plugin?
To move off Business Directory Plugin, export a CSV, back up the site, then rebuild or convert on staging before switching the domain. Its listings are WordPress posts that stay in your database, so the old site is your fallback; test what carries over rather than assume it.
- Export your listings to CSV and back up the site. Exporting all data and settings with Migrate & Backup needs Pro or Elite.
- Write down what earns money today (paid plans, featured or sticky listings, claims), who owns which listing, and which listing URLs bring in search traffic.
- Staying on WordPress: install the new plugin on a staging copy, import the CSV or try GeoDirectory's beta Directory Converter there, and check fields, reviews and paid plans against the original.
- Moving to LocusPilot is a new directory built from public business data, not a migration: owner accounts, claims, reviews and billing relationships do not transfer. Build the same niche and city, then reconcile the new listings against your old CSV before you switch the domain.
- On WordPress, map each old listing URL to its new page and set up redirects, then test forms and any payments from start to finish. LocusPilot has not published redirect controls for old URLs; keep the old site live on its own address or ask before you move the domain. Cancel the old license only once the new directory works; renewals are at full price, listed as $249 for Pro and $349 for Elite.
When should you stay with Business Directory Plugin?
Business Directory Plugin is worth keeping when its existing workflows cover what you need, as in staff and member directories. It also covers commercial directories that take one-time or recurring paid listings through Authorize.net or through Stripe on an active Pro or Elite license. Authorize.net carries no Strategy11 fee, though the gateway's own charges apply. The free plugin has no listing cap, works with any WordPress theme, and keeps listings as WordPress posts even if the plugin goes.
Business Directory Plugin's support also earns praise in recent reviews. One user of five or six years wrote in January 2026: "Resolution has been fast and efficient each time" (WordPress.org). If your directory takes less than $4,967 a year through Stripe, the 3% fee costs less than Pro's first year. Switch when the move buys something you lack, such as Google import, cheaper claims or a directory you don't have to build.
